the frame: chapter one— trust

The Frame is Dancers of RVA's creative portrait experience where movement meets meaning.

Each chapter, a select group of dancers are invited to explore a meaningful theme through artful sessions, community collaboration, connection, and storytelling. The Chapters are offered twice a year. Once in the Fall & Winter and again in Spring & Summer.

Our first chapter is TRUST: an exploration of the relationship between dancer and body, dancer and camera, dancer and artist. Together, we will build trust in the process, in the art, and in ourselves.

Trust is at the heart of every beautiful image and every powerful performance. In this chapter, dancers will:

Build trust in themselves and their abilities . Trust the process and embrace the unknown . Trust the artist and the creative collaboration . Express vulnerability, strength, and authenticity . Celebrate where they are and where they are

more than a photoshoot

  • Each chapter offers two thoughtfully designed creative sessions.

    • One outdoor session (Fall 2026)

    • One indoor session (Winter 2027)

  • A planning experience that's just as fun as the session itself.

  • Movement coaching that helps you feel confident to trust your movement & posing.

  • Artistically edited images that will tell the story of this chapter of your dance journey.

  • Special themed projects and creative collaborations within the community.

  • Resources to help you prepare, grow, and feel your best.

  • A welcoming community that celebrates every dancer, every journey, and every chapter.

who can apply?

Dancers ages 10 through professional from all styles and backgrounds are invited to apply. We welcome dancers who are passionate about movement, storytelling, and personal growth.

Applications include a short questionnaire, movement photo and character reference.

Investment

There are two tiers to choose from. More investment details will be shared with dancers after acceptance.

Both tiers will include a day in studio hosting a master class and special guest speaker from our community to discuss the topic of trust.

Scholarship applications will open once we have accepted dancers.
