I grew up dancing all genres and was a competitive dancer from age 6 to 18. I also was the captain of my high school dance team, president of the mixed chorus, and participated in my schools musical productions. After high school, I attended East Carolina University and received a BFA in Dance Performance with a Jazz Concentration. For the last decade, my home has been Chesterfield Dance Center here in RVA. My areas of expertise are Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theater, as well as being the dELIRIUM assistant director, and choreographer for the company. I have won choreography awards at Hollywood Vibe and Velocity Dance Convention for jazz, and entertainment awards at Hollywood Vibe and West Coast Dance Explosion for Musical Theater. With that said, to me, a teacher's greatest accomplishment is not the awards they bring home, but the relationships they build, and the fire they ignite in their students. As soon as I became a teacher, I told myself I wanted to motivate in the same way my teachers motivated me. This journey can be a bumpy one, but it is the artistry, the passion, and the love that keeps my ride staying steady. I love being a teacher and choreographer of multiple genres as diversity is key. Dance is continuous, and cohesive, and wouldn't maintain if we didn't pull from other artistic aspects.
I am honored to be nominated for Best Jazz Choreography because, why wouldn't I be? We all strive to put our best foot forward and to create a piece of art, all while maintaining the history and technical aspects behind a genre. Jazz is legendary and I wouldn't be the person or choreographer I am today without it.
Fun fact about me: I am a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Every Sunday during football season you will find me watching my game here in Richmond or throwing my terrible towel at Heinz Field.
